Welcome to Shannon, Mississippi! Explore town news and upcoming events to local government resources and community services. Nestled in the heart of Lee Co., Shannon is a vibrant and growing community that prides itself on its rich history and friendly atmosphere. WE ARE SHANNON Named for Samuel Shannon, who purchased land from Chickasaw Chief Itawamba in the early 1800's. By 1860, the town was incorporated, originally in Itawamba County, but became a part of Lee County in 1866. From our beginnings to the present, the town of Shannon has sought to promote and improve quality of life, by enhancing a sense of community and preserving our small-town identity. As the first African American to become Mayor after 13 generations and many years, I am proud to be a lifelong citizen of Shannon and to recognize our journey as a community and the potential we have when we work together. We have always taken pride in working together to solve problems. Our focus is not on having big or small government, but on having good government led by good leaders. We strive to provide excellence through accessible town government and encourage public participation from our businesses, citizens, and visitors. A PROUD PAST AND A BRIGHT FUTURE! Mayor Paul "O.P." Lyles If you have any concerns or issues, please call me, as I share your concerns.
